Terms and conditions of employment


The salary is paid on a monthly basis via Bankers Automated Clearing System (BACS) on the penultimate working day of every month


The Local Government Pension Scheme is a contributory final salary scheme, contributions are dependant on salary.  New employees are automatically enters into the scheme when they start their employment.  

Hours of work

Standard contract is 37 hours per week.  A flex it time scheme is in operation.

Annual leave entitlement

For posts up to pay Band 8 the annual leave entitlement is 22 days rising to 27 after 5 years of local government service.  For posts Band 9 and above the leave entitlement is 24 days rising to 29 after 5 years service. Part time and temporary employees leave will be calculated pro rata.  

Maternity, paternity and parental leave

Maternity and paternity leave is given in accordance with the National Agreements and statutory maternity and paternity pay provisions.  We also allow parental leave and unpaid time off for family reasons in accordance with current regulations.  

Probationary period

All new employees are required to serve a 6 month probationary period.  


All appointments are subject to satisfactory references which must at least cover the last 3 years employment and must be from a current and/or immediately preceding employer.  Where there has been no employment in the last 3 years please contact HR for further advise.  


If a qualification is an essential criteria then the original certificates will need to be verified by HR before commencement.
