Flooding

We hold a stock of sandbags which can be collected by the public free of charge by arrangement.  We also supply sandbags to the following locations where they can be collected during a flood:

  • Bottesford - store at the Village Hall field, Belvoir Rd
  • Bottesford - store at Pinfold Lane allotments
  • Normanton - Blackthorn Farm, Main Street
  • Muston - Manor Farm, Main St and Peacok Farm, Woolsthorpe Rd.

Please contact Bottesford Parish Council to arrange access.

Assistance with the delivery of sandbags may be available at times of flooding but this service is likely to be severely limited when the flooding is widespread and should not be relied upon.

Further information and advice on flood risk and how to protect property is available from the Environment Agency and additional information can be found on the main Leicestershire County Council flooding page.

Flooding can occur during or following heavy rainfall as a result of the over-topping of rivers or from overland flows. Serious flooding occurred in the Melton borough in 1993, 1998, 1999, 2000 and 2001. Although substantial investment in flood protection measures has been made by the Council since 1998, property owners should take precautions to reduce the risk of damage to property and contents by acting on warnings or information of severe weather given out by the media, especially in areas where flooding is known to have occurred previously.
