Sport and Physical Activity

The Sports
Development and Physical Activity Team sits within the Social and
Economic Development section of Melton Borough Council. It
currently comprises two Physical Activity Development Offciers
employed through the county-wide Active Together project, an Active
Lifestyle Referral Coordinator, and a Community Dance
Coach.
The key aims of the Sports
Development and Physical Activity team are:
- To co-ordinate, develop and increase opportunities for all
Melton Borough residents to participate in sport and active
recreation, and to encourage sustained involvement.
- To work in partnership with other agencies with an interest in
sport and active recreation.
- To address key local sporting issues in the Borough.

Leicestershire Walking Week in
Melton
Leicestershire Walking Week 2010 will take
place from September 4th to 12th and includes 75 led walks around
the county, with five taking place in Melton. Walks include two
historical walks a buggy walk and the ever popular senior
walks.
The Mayor of Melton, Councillor Margaret
Moore, will be attending the week’s launch walk which takes place
at Melton Country Park at 10am on Saturday September 4th. The free
walk around the park is between 2.5 and 3 miles long. Families and
dogs are welcome and no booking is required.
The Mayor will also be attending the first
historical walk around Melton Mowbray which starts outside St
Mary’s church off Church Street at 2pm on Friday September 10th.
There will also be a further historical walk at 6pm that evening.
Booking is required for these walks, with a maximum number of 20
places available for each one.
Ideal for those over 50-years-old, the senior
walk starts at Melton Country Park at 1.30pm on Thursday September
9th. The buggy walk takes place at 10.30am on Friday September
10th, starting outside the cafe at Wilton Park. Both of these walks
are free of charge and booking isn’t required.
Walking Week aims to promote walking as:

easy way to get fit and boost well-being
· A
chance to leave the car behind and help reduce pollution
· A
great way to explore everything the area has to offer
