FrEE SWIMMING AT wATERFIELD lEISURE POOL

Introduction to the Free Swimming Programme
From April 1st 2009 everybody aged 16 and under and 60 and over
will be entitled to swim for free at published public
swimming sessions at Waterfield Leisure Pools as part of the
Government's Free Swimming programme. The scheme is part of a
national campaign to promote swimming, general fitness, more active
lifestyles and well-being. It is a conerstone of the
Government's Legacy Action Plan, which aims to make the most of the
London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. In Melton, the two year
initiative is being delivered by Melton Borough Council in
partnership with Everyone Active, who manage and operate Waterfield
Leisure Pools on behalf of the Melton Borough Council.
Who can access free swimming?
Anybody aged 60 and over - and those aged 16 and under (subject
to normal admission policy for younger age groups) - can enjoy free
swimming at Waterfield Leisure Pools during the published public
swimming sessions.
When does the free swimming start?
The Free Swimming Programme will commence on April 1st 2009
and is currently funded for two years, until 31st March 2011.
The Government has yet to confirm if the scheme will be supported
past this date.

How do I get a free swim?
To take up the free swim offer you must have a valid 'Everyone
Active' card. The cards are free and are available from Waterfield
Leisure Pools. You can also apply for an 'Everyone
Active' card online by visiting the Everyone Active website by
clicking
here. Anyone wishing to register for a card must bring ID (for
example birth certificate, passport, driving licence, etc)
When I can swim?
Those that are eligible for the scheme will be able to swim
during the published public swimming sessions at Waterfield Leisure
Pools. The pool timetables can be found by clicking on the
links below:
Are there any other conditions?
Yes. We expect that the free swimming will be popular,
especially for those aged 16 and under at the weekends and during
school holidays. For this reason each swimmer accessing a free
swimming session will be limited to 2 hours in the pool, subject to
the pool timetable. There will also be no re-entry for those
wishing to access free swimming on any particular day, i.e. users
will be restricted to one visit a day. The
management will also retain their usual right to refuse
entry to anybody that they feel will endanger the safety or
enjoyment of other users.
Are other Councils offering free swimming?
Yes, all other local authorities in Leicestershire are taking
part in the scheme and offering free swimming to those aged 16 and
under and 60 and over. This is because of the financial support
that all local authorities, Leicestershire County Council and
Leicestershire County and Rutland Primary Care Trust have given to
all ow the programme to be offered as part of a coordinated bid
across Leicestershire and Leicester city. For details of other
local authorities, pleae use the links below:
