Leicester-Shire and Rutland Youth
Games

The concept of County Youth Games was brought forward in 1999 as
the whole nation prepared to celebrate the Millennium.
Each of the 45 counties in
England organised Youth Games as the young people of our nation
celebrated the year 2000 through sporting participation.
Since then it has become an
annual event for Leicester-Shire & Rutland, getting bigger and
better each year!
The Youth Games was first
held in 1999 at Loughborough University. The multi-sport
inter-district and inter-SSP competition is a celebration of
Youth Sport with the following objectives:
- To provide quality activities for young people
- To provide competition for young people with sporting
potential
- Talent identification
- First volunteering experience
Over 1,500 young people, aged 9 - 16 years, will take part over
the two days in a range of sports. They will compete
to represent their Local Authority team in the mainstream
Youth Games, or their School Sport Partnership in the
Inclusive Youth Games. These events will be promoted through
schools, local leisure centres and clubs.
Trophys and medals are
presented to the winning District/SSP in each sport competition,
and a Fair Play Trophy is also presented to the winning
District/SSP. It will be the most significant trophy presented.
