Melton wins a Silver Medal in the town’s first entry into the RHS Britain in Bloom Finals 2015.
The Melton BID was selected from more than 1,000 entrants to take part in the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Britain in Bloom UK Finals 2015, representing the East Midlands region in the Business Improvement District category.
Results were announced at the awards ceremony in Sunderland on 16th October.
Melton was one of three BIDs to reach the national finals, including Reading and London Bridge. Melton was also nominated by the judges for a Discretionary Award, for the RHS Heritage Award.
Judges commented that “the tour demonstrated great community cohesions” with the Environmental Responsibility section specifically described as “a very strong section for the town which currently many towns are finding hard to achieve”. “Melton Mowbray has a long history and you have ensured both visitors and local residents are fully aware of it. The judges were very impressed at the green and blue wall plaques, historic information and interpretation signs. You have achieved an exceptional mark and should be very proud”.
Shelagh Core, BID Manager said “To achieve a Silver Medal with the town’s first entry into the RHS Britain in Bloom Finals 2015 is a fantastic achievement. The award really has reflected the pride and commitment of all those involved, especially Melton in Bloom, the volunteers, business and communities, Melton Borough Council and the Town Estate. The East Midlands in Bloom and Britain in Bloom competitions this year have provided an exciting opportunity to showcase the town’s proud achievements and we are looking forward to next year’s In Bloom competition”.
