Free After Three Car Parking Pilot is launchedPublished Monday, 2nd November 2015
Melton’s first Free After Three car parking pilot launches today.
The new car parking initiative, funded by the Melton BID and supported by Melton Borough Council, will offer free parking after 3pm in MBC’s Burton Street car park during the months of November and December.
The aim of the initiative is to drive footfall into the town centre after 3pm, when footfall and car park occupancy in the town centre is low.
Shelagh Core, BID Manager said “The Free After Three pilot will seek to promote and support the town’s early evening economy and its food/drink, leisure and culture offer. It will also seek to support the town’s Christmas marketing campaign and the town’s retailers between 3pm and 6pm, during a period when online and out of town competition is at its highest”.
Car park occupancy and footfall will be recorded throughout the two month pilot, to determine usage and the success of the Free After Three initiative. If successful, it is hoped that the initiative will be extended into other town centre car parks in 2016.
