Council welcomes Melton Mowbray Football club ground grading success and successful grant from Football foundation.
The Council has received confirmation from the Football Foundation – Football Stadium Improvement Fund (FSIF) that it has been successful in partnership with Melton Mowbray FC in being awarded £50,000 grant for stadia improvement funding at the Clubs new Burton Road Ground, Melton Sports Village.
Further positive news was received from Melton Mowbray FC on Friday 8th April 2016 that a ground grading inspection for promotion was passed by the Football Association meaning that Melton Mowbray FC now meet the requirements to be promoted into Tier 6 of the national league structures.
Cllr Leigh Higgins Lead Member for the Council’s Leisure Vision Project has welcomed the news stating: ‘This is testament of the Council’s time and investment and we are supporting Melton Mowbray FC’s ambition to progress through the leagues. Following on from the success of Leicester City FC we hope that Melton Mowbray FC will achieve similar success in the future. Now that we have achieved this milestone of securing football in the Town of Melton Mowbray the Council will start to focus on increasing physical activity and supporting all sports groups ambitions to increase participation with the aim creating a healthy, vibrant and successful community in the Borough’
Melton Borough Council will now move ahead with plans to test the market to establish the appetite from leisure providers in relation to the development of a new multi-use indoor and stadia facility of the Melton Sports Village site, Burton Road, Melton Mowbray (formerly King Edward VII).
