Melton Borough Council awarded for Armed Forces supportPublished Friday, 2nd February 2018
Melton Borough Council has received a Bronze award for its support of armed forces.
The Armed Forces Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS) is a national scheme encouraging employers to support defence and inspire others to do the same.
The Bronze award recognises that the Council has demonstrated its support for the armed forces community in Melton Borough, following the signing of the Armed Forces Covenant.
The covenant itself offers support and advice for armed forces and their families, including information about welfare, employment, education and housing. The Council signed up to be part of the Armed Forces Covenant in 2014.
Councillor Simon Lumley, Lead Member for Armed Forces at the Council said:
“We at the Council recognise the sacrifices made by our armed forces personnel, and their families, and we’re very pleased that we can offer them our support.
“Whilst we are very proud to receive an award of this nature the most important thing is to ensure the work of these brave men and women is given the recognition it deserves. It is important to give something back to those who serve their country, and the families who support them.”
The Council also employs an Armed Forces Community Covenant Officer, in partnership with Charnwood and Rushcliffe Borough Councils to help develop and improve the Armed Forces Covenant and ensure that military personnel do not face any disadvantage as a result of their service.
The Councils are asking armed forces personnel, veterans and their families for their views to help understand their requirements and develop future support. The survey is on-going and is available online at:
