Melton Country Park & Thorpe Road Cemetery are acknowledged as two of the UK’s very best green spaces.

This year Melton Country Park and Thorpe Road Cemetery are among 1,883 UK parks and green spaces that will receive the prestigious Green Flag Award – the mark of a quality park or green space.

The Country Park and Cemetery have been recognised by the Green Flag Award Scheme as two of the very best in the Country. A green flag flying overhead is a sign to the public that the space boasts the highest possible standards, is beautifully maintained, encourages local involvement and has appropriate facilities for the local community it serves.

The range of available activities and facilities in the park has increased over the past year with more planned for the future. A second dog agility trail has been installed and is proving to be very popular with dog owners, along with our beloved furry friends enjoying the use of their very own outdoor gym.

Councillor Mal Sheldon, Chairman of the Place Committee  said: “We are absolutely delighted to receive two Green Flag Awards for the 6th year running. We know how much quality green spaces matter to residents and visitors alike  and this award celebrates the dedication that goes into maintaining the two sites to such a high standard.  Each flag provides national recognition for the hard work and commitment of the council’s Environmental Services team and volunteer groups who have helped to create these fantastic places for all to take pleasure in, we are proud to have so many wonderful green spaces in Melton for people to enjoy.”
