Help shape Melton's future!

Following the government’s announcement to invest £50m in the Melton relief road, and the imminent adoption of the Local Plan, this is a time of great opportunity for Melton.

The area has many great assets including a thriving food and drink industry, beautiful countryside and unique tourist attractions, but there is also a sense that we could do more with them and a desire to fully realise the area’s undoubted potential. Now a group of local partners have agreed to work together and pool their collective resources and effort to see this achieved.

As a first step representatives including leaders from Pera Business Park, Visit Belvoir, Dickinson and Morris, Melton BID, Brooksby Melton College, Melton Borough Council, Melton Mowbray Food Partnership and the Town Estate have enlisted the expertise of thinkingplace, the UK’s leading place branding agency to develop a Place ‘Story’ and Brand for Melton.

A clear and innovative Place Brand raises the profile of a destination to attract investment, visitors and people to live in the area; encourages growth, and helps to develop it as a destination of choice.

thinkingplace will spend time in Melton, researching and listening to the views of local businesses and communities; building insight into the experience of the borough and its assets. Working with all the different stakeholders they will create a forward looking ‘story’ and visual identify which will enable local stakeholders to tell and sell what makes Melton distinctive.

Mal Sheldon, Chairman of the Place Committee said:  “Melton has a great deal to offer both as a place to live and work and indeed invest. Establishing the Melton story and brand will not only create a clear identity for the borough it will also create a shared view of what we need to focus on in the future. We want organisations and individuals to be excited about the borough and feel connected to all its incredible assets and resources. We want people to play an active role in being a part of Melton’s Place branding, helping it fulfil its ambitions and enhancing civic pride.”

The story will shape our approach to tourism, where we invest in our town centre, what kind of infrastructure we need and what kind of businesses we should encourage to relocate here.  It will be the building block to Melton’s future, but to have the greatest impact it needs to be shaped and owned by as many people as possible. This is where you can get involved:

thinkingplace will be running two workshops in Melton where community and business representatives can hear more about the work being undertaken and feed their views in. The first takes place on Wednesday 10th October 6pm -7:30pm and the second takes place on Tuesday October 30th 8am-9:30am.
