Council Tax Discounts – Public ConsultationPublished Thursday, 18th October 2018
District and Borough Councils in Leicestershire have been tasked with reviewing their discretions with regard to Council Tax Discounts.
This is as a means for preventing residential properties from remaining empty for long periods and also increasing potential revenue by adjusting discounts.
Leader of the Council, Joe Orson said: “Changes to the Council Tax Discounts will reduce the need to make savings in areas such adult and children’s social care, highways maintenance, public bus services, police and fire services, as well as services provided by Melton Borough Council. In the current financial climate, we believe we should consider options to change our Council Tax Discounts, maximising Council Tax Collection over this difficult period.”
Melton Borough Council invites residents to review the proposed changes by reviewing the consultation document and completing a short survey on our website:
The public consultation period will end on 16th November 2018 and all responses will be reviewed before a final decision is made.
