Great British Spring Clean - March 22nd to 23rd April 2019

Published Monday, 11th March 2019 Great British Spring Clean - March 22nd to 23rd April 2019

Melton Borough Council has pledged its support for this year’s Great British Spring Clean, run by environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy.

Please note the venue for the litter pick has changed to The Cove, Sysonby Street LE13 0LP at 10:45am

The campaign, which runs from March 22nd to April 23rd, will see up to half a million people taking action to clean up streets, parks and beaches across the country.

Leader of the Council, Cllr Joe Orson said: “The Great British Spring Clean is an opportunity for residents of the Borough to do something positive that will make a visible difference to the community they live in”

The Great British Spring Clean brings together individuals, community organisations, businesses and councils to make a difference to the environment on our doorstep and in 2018 around 370,000 #LitterHeroes collected more than 630,000 bags of rubbish.

Last year, Melton Borough Council, along with pupils from John Fernley School, local councilors, employees from McDonalds and other community groups, held a sizable litter pick and collected over 45 bags of litter, including a toilet seat, car bumper, carpet and a television.

The council is keen to engage with anyone who is interested in supporting or taking part in this campaign. A community litter pick is planned to take place in the town on Wednesday 10th  April at 10:30 am, if you or your organisation is interested in participating, or a school please email: wastemanagement@melton.gov.uk  and we will provide you with further information. If you are organising your own event please let us know as we will be compiling a summary of all the litter picks in the Borough and the amount of litter that has been collected.

All equipment will be provided, however there is a limited amount available, so please register as early as you can.
