Melton prepares for BrexitPublished Tuesday, 15th October 2019
Melton Borough Council Brexit preparations are currently underway and a strategic response plan has been put together to provide a framework to effectively deal with any uncertainty in the build up to, and the response phase if the UK leaves the EU.
Cllr Joe Orson, Leader of the Council comments: “Brexit is a fast moving and ever changing policy area with both possible wide ranging challenges and implications for Melton. We are working closely with the community and businesses to support and advice where possible, and will continue to update our residents as more information comes to light.”
Melton Borough Council are working closely with local community groups, residents and businesses to provide support and advice as the date draws nearer. The Council are acting to mitigate risk and are preparing for different eventualities.
As part of the support in helping to prepare businesses, Melton Borough Council partnered with the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) and the Leicester and Leicestershire Local Enterprise Partnership (LLEP) and hosted a free ‘Ready for Brexit’ event on Tuesday 15th October at the Council Offices. The event was aimed at businesses operating in the food and drink sector but also open to all other sectors and provided them with relevant information and signposted them to what support and advice is available.
A dedicated webpage has been set up www.melton.gov.uk/brexit and a dedicated email address firstname.lastname@example.org to provide useful documents and links to external websites including information on the EU Settlement Scheme and advice for businesses currently trading with the EU.
