Council revokes licence for Golden ChoicePublished Wednesday, 29th January 2020
Melton Borough Council has revoked the premises licence for Golden Choice following a recent hearing by the Licensing sub-committee.
Leicestershire Police submitted a review application to the Council for Golden Choice located on Windsor Street, Melton Mowbray. Councillors heard representations from the Police concerning Immigration offences which occurred on the Premises in October 2019.
The sub-committee were told that the Licensee was caught with four people working on the premises who were overstaying in the UK. Councillors considered the immigration offences very seriously and found that the Licensee was irresponsible and had failed in his duty to promote the licensing objectives. The Licence Holder was found to have breached his Licence conditions and lacked the diligence required of a Licence Holder.
The Director for Governance and Regulatory Services said:
"The night time economy should be managed as effectively as any other licensable activity. The Council has a duty to regulate licenced activities and consider appropriate action where a breach is identified. The Sub-Committee felt it was a reasonable and proportionate measure to revoke the licence on the basis of the evidence provided. This decision should send a clear message that the Council takes its responsibility seriously and will take action against Licensees for not upholding the Licensing Objectives and failing to comply with the law.
