Melton Borough Council

Discretionary Business Grants Fund is open for a second round of applications

Published Thursday, 2nd July 2020

Melton Borough Council has announced it will run another round of the Discretionary Business Grants scheme to support local businesses.

The council launched the first round of this scheme in June 2020 and recently made payments to 95 businesses, allocating over £457,000 through this process. This builds on the £10.2m paid to 855 businesses through the government’s earlier grants schemes. Following the first round of allocations, there is £118,000 remaining in the Discretionary Grant fund, therefore, the council has decided to open up a second round of the scheme to provide further support to businesses and the local economy.

Cllr Leigh Higgins, Deputy Leader of the Council, said “We are keen to support the community and businesses as much as possible during this time. Whilst we have already supported many businesses through the first round of the scheme, we are aware that there are still many businesses who are in need of grant support. Due to this, we are delighted to be able to open up the second round of this scheme to those businesses in the borough that have so far been ineligible for grant funding.

We would also encourage businesses to speak to their landlords to see if rent relief is available, and to make sure they have utilised the full suite of government support available to them during this period. This will enable us to support as many local businesses as we can with the funding we have.”

The scheme will be open to all businesses in the borough that are able to demonstrate that they meet the minimum criteria set out in the national guidance, such as having ongoing fixed costs, being open and trading on the 11 March 2020 and experiencing significant income loss.

Applications can be made from 09:00 Thursday 2 July to 23:59 on Thursday 16 July 2020 using the online form available at: www.melton.gov.uk/here4melton/topupgrantform.

Any applications received after this period will not be considered as eligible for this scheme.  Once this application window has expired, the Council will review the applications against the criteria set out within the discretionary grant fund policy and accompanying documentation relation to the second round of the scheme. Grants will be distributed to those businesses that are able to demonstrate they are most in need.
