Melton Mowbray Allotment Competition – 3rd July 2014

Published Monday, 30th June 2014

Allotment holders in Melton are being invited to take part in the annual allotment competition.

Councillor Pam Posnett has provided the Champion Allotment Trophy and Councillor Elaine Holmes has provided the Best Overall Newcomer Plate (1st July 2013 onwards), with prize vouchers (redeemable at the Melton and District Allotment and Gardening Trade Hut off Thorpe Road) for Best and Runner up per allotment site.

The confirmed judges will include Councillor Posnett, Councillor Elaine Holmes, Malcolm Johnson and Barry Cook of the Melton and District Allotment and Gardening Society and Marie Walters of Melton Mowbray In Bloom.

All 4 Melton Borough Council run sites are included; Lake Terrace, Redwood Avenue, Doctors Lane and the Crescent. There are two self managed sites and we are delighted that the Victoria Street allotments are participating. All entries will be anonymous.

This is an exciting opportunity for allotment holders to receive recognition for all their hard work.

The Mayor of the Borough of Melton, Councillor John Wyatt will be presenting the Posnett Spade and announcing other winners of  the various prizes at a reception, to which all allotment holders are invited, at 6.30pm on the 9th July 2014 at Parkside. Winners will also be announced in the Melton Times.

Councillor Posnett confirms “ I am delighted to be a Judge and hope that the day is fine and the competition close”.
