Melton Health, Leisure & Wellbeing Centre – Business Case Development (Phase 2)

Delivering a modern, fit for purpose Health, Leisure and Well-being facility is a key priority for us as outlined in our Corporate Strategy.

Improving our facilities will be essential to meet the additional demands resulting from the expected growth of the town over the next 15-20 years.

To date, the council has undertaken work to look at the practicality and feasibility of developing a new leisure offer in the borough, what this needs to look like and how it can serve our residents both now and in the future.

Phase Two of this wide reaching project will look at developing specific proposals and a business case for leisure provision in the borough.

Background

In 2018, the Council commissioned consultants to undertake a high level review leisure provision in the town (Phase 1)

The consultant report confirmed concerns that significant investment was required to bring facilities up to even a basic standard. But it also highlighted that consolidation of the current leisure offer would not, in itself, deliver the economies of scale necessary to fund a modern, ‘state of the art’ facility.

Following review, Councillors agreed to undertake a full options appraisal of the Melton Sports Village (MSV) site for a consolidated ‘single site’ leisure development that would include complementary uses to improve commercial prospects, viability and delivery.

The Coronavirus pandemic delayed commencement on the project. It also resulted in significant changes in leisure and well-being behaviour which need to be considered in any proposals.

The council has now secured consultants to work with us to take this work forward, so please check back on this website for regular updates.

Consultation

We are running a consultation on current and future leisure facilities in Melton.

We want to hear your opinions and concerns around the leisure and well-being provisions available.

The survey should take between 15-30 minutes to complete and will close on 9 January 2022.
