Purpose of the Job

Are you a procurement professional looking for your next role? Perhaps you are looking to increase your responsibilities, or looking to work with a more diverse set of projects? Are you looking for a fast paced, varied opportunity, making real and lasting change, across several public sector authorities? Do you want to be part of a team where your managers actively seek to progress your career with professional development and successor planning, a role where you can feel truly valued?

The working day at Welland Procurement is never dull, as we cover the varied contractual needs for a range of councils spread across 5 counties in the East Midlands.

As a senior part of the team, you will be assisting staff from our member councils in keeping the process legal, engaging suppliers, and ultimately providing best value. You don’t have to know local government procedures but an experience of understanding and managing the risks within procurement is a necessity!

We are looking for someone who can add value to the team in their own unique way, whether that is creativity, regulatory knowledge, a desire to develop processes or people - or maybe something else entirely.

The role is based in Melton Mowbray however you will not be required in the office more than 12 days a year so remote working is a real possibility.

About you

Reporting to the Head of Procurement, you will have a varied workload with shifting priorities which you will proactively manage. You will confidently own your work reporting to clients and the Head of the unit with updates, issues (including options to resolve) as required.

You will have evidencable experience of procurement, in a well-regulated setting, of delivering complex or high value Tenders. Public Sector / Local government knowledge would be advantageous.

We desire candidates who can identify risk in the procurement process and actively provide a range of options to address these.

Having a creative mind or being a problem solver will help create the best value solutions we are looking for. It will also allow you to contribute into service improvements and innovations as we develop.

You will need a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite applications, particularly word, excel, teams and outlook – these are our main tools for communications, documentation, and reports. We also have some web-based software to manage processes.

This opportunity would be ideal for individuals who can really engage with people, some one able to influence others’ opinions, or assertively stand their ground when required.

Welland Procurement is a small but expanding unit so being a team player is key in anyone joining the unit. As a senior member of the team, you will also provide support to more junior staff in best practice and to drive their development.
