Apply for a council house

If you need to apply for social housing and are eligible you can apply using the form below, please include all the relevant information and proof of identity requested. Once you have submitted an application you will be added to our waiting list.

We aim to process applications within six to eight weeks. 

If you have an urgent housing need or need advice regarding your housing options, please contact our Customer Services team.

I have already applied.

If you are a current applicant and have already applied for social housing you can also contact us by logging into your Choice Based Lettings (CBL) account or by submitting a Contact Form on the Choice Based Lettings website.

We are currently working through all applications. You will be notified once the assessment has been completed. If you have not heard from us by the beginning of October 2021 please contact us.


If you are homeless or threatened with homelessness you should contact us as soon as possible. For more information please see our homeless or at risk page.

Private renting

Council Housing is their to support our residents who are most in need. If you are not in need of a council house but are wanting to move, you should consider private renting. 

The government have a guide on how to rent. 

New Housing system

Melton Borough Council is currently preparing to move to a new Choice Based Lettings IT system.  If you are not currently in housing need, you may prefer to wait to register with the new system.

You can contact the team if you need any advice or support regarding your housing options.  

We will provide further updates about the new Housing Register and Choice Based Lettings system in due course.
