Fire at Council Offices

news picture

The Borough Council has co-operated fully with the Fire Service throughout its investigation and is pleased to note that the Investigation has now been completed with the principle finding being that the cause of the fire was accidental due to an electrical fault. We would like to place on record once again, our appreciation for the Fire Service and the professional way in which they have dealt with both the fire and the subsequent investigation.

The fire has been a traumatic event for us and the period since 30th May 2008 has not been an easy one for Council staff, Councillors, our partners or the local community. We are continuing to stay totally focused on recovery and in particular our desire to bring back as soon as possible all of our staff from their temporary base in Nottingham so that they can once again provide services to the community from within the Borough. Alongside this we are also starting to plan our work on a replacement building, which has the potential to be an exciting development for the Borough.
