Discretionary Business Grants Fund

The opportunity to apply for a business grant through the following scheme has now closed.

The deadline for the second round of applications was Midnight on 9th August 2024. No applications will be accepted after the deadline.  

Eligibility criteria

Pre-startup £2,000- £10,000
  • Proposed business must be based in Melton Borough. 

  • Pre-startups must submit a full Business Plan.  

  • Must have a business bank account at the point of award, if successful.   

Business Startups (already trading) £2,000- £10,000
  • Any business in Melton Borough area. 

  • Startups must have been in business no more than 24 months at point of application submission.  

  • Must have a business bank account. 

Supporting Business Growth £2,000- £10,000
  • Number of jobs created (Full-time or FTE equivalent must be stated in application) 

  • Number of jobs safeguarded (Full-time or FTE equivalent must be stated in application) 

  • Projected increase in sales (%) 

  • Projected increase in profit (%) 

  • Deliverability of project within 12 months 

Business Grant Application Workshops

Who cannot benefit from the Discretionary Scheme? 

Businesses who fall into the following categories will not be considered eligible for this scheme:  

  1. Businesses that are no longer trading as of the date of application submission (unless a pre-startup business).  
  2. Companies in administration, are insolvent or where a striking-off notice has been made.
  3. Businesses that are not registered within the borough (unless a pre-startup business) but must be registered at the point of issuing grant, if successful.
  4. Applications where the grant will go towards an item or project that will predominately operate or benefit areas outside of Melton Borough.
  5. Applications that are not directly signed off by an appropriate decision maker within the relevant business.
  6. Projects that have been completed and retrospective funding is requested.
  7. Projects that received a grant in Round 1, i.e. you cannot apply for a grant in Round 2 for the same project you received funding for in Round 1.

Leicestershire Business Advice Service 

Businesses across the borough can now access the fully-funded Leicestershire Business Advice Service, funded by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund. The service provides entrepreneurs with advice and practical support to enable start-ups and growing businesses to reach their full potential.

Leicestershire Business Advice Service

The service is free to access for those looking to start a business or those currently operating a small to medium sized business in the borough. 

Expert advice: The service is delivered by business support experts Exemplas. Through their specialist advisory team, they work with businesses at all stages of their journey to access the support needed and create an action plan to take forward. 

Connections: Exemplas work closely with other business support services both locally and nationally. As well as accessing this service, they will help to signpost you to other organisations who can help. This may include opportunities for grant funding.
