Public health funerals
A public health funeral is arranged where someone dies within the district and no one is willing or able to arrange a funeral. These are often referred by the Coroner.
Our responsibility comes under Section 46(1) of the Public Health (Control of Diseases) Act 1984 which is in place to protect human health from the spread of disease.
We do not provide a funeral service and cannot provide funding towards funerals that have already been arranged or taken place. We are also not responsible for funeral arrangements if the deceased lived in Melton borough but died in another council’s district boundary
We have a Public Health Funeral Policy available and a Public Register, which can be provided on request by contacting us.
