Private Sector Tenants

If you are a tenant of private landlord or housing association, your landlord is generally responsible for pest control if it is related to structural defects, lack of maintenance or issues that exist at the start of your tenancy.

If the presence of pests is interfering with the use of your property or there is a severe health risk you should report this to your landlord or letting agent. Landlords must act to resolve pest related issues to make your home safe.

If you have reported this to your landlord or letting agent and they have been unresponsive or not resolved the issue, please contact the Environmental Health team on environmentalhealth@melton.gov.uk. They will investigate the incident and if an issue is found they will work to find a resolution with the landlord.

Council Tenants

If the issue persists and you are struggling to keep your home in a good condition please speak to your housing officer who will be able to look at additional support that can be put in place to assist you moving forward.

If the pest issues are due to a disrepair or are occurring in a communal area of the property you should report this as a repair as soon as possible. We will investigate the incident and schedule in the repair works needed.

If the condition of a neighbouring property is causing reoccurring and persistent pests issues, which is interfering with the use of your property or causing a severe health risk to you and your family, please report this to us by emailing the Environmental Health team on environmentalhealth@melton.gov.uk and we can look into the issue.
