New rental laws are coming soon. There are big changes that landlords and tenants need to know about. Read our Landlords guide to the Renter's Rights Bill for more information.
Shared ownership
Shared ownership allows you to buy a share in a property with a housing association.
Ownership can be of different amounts. For example;
- Buyer 25% and housing association 75%
- Buyer 50% and housing association 50%
- Buyer 75% and housing association 25%
You will pay the mortgage on the part you own and pay a below market value rent to the housing association on the remaining share.
Over time, you can usually increase your share of ownership to own up to 100% of the property; this is called 'staircasing'.
Find a property
There are various shared ownership properties across Melton Borough of different sizes. You can find these properties in the same way you would find other properties for sale, advertised with Estate Agents.
You can use the Help to Buy property search below to find an agent.
