Celebrating the 80th Anniversary of VE Day in Melton 

Melton Borough Council launched a VE Day 80th Anniversary small grant fund, closed 7 March 2025, to celebrate this momentous anniversary.

Applicants

Melton Borough Council received a total 17 applications from local schools, organisations and community groups across the borough:

Croxton Kerrial Sports and Social Club	Celebration in conjunction with Village Hall for all local residents.
Melton BID Company Ltd	Providing bunting and flags for shop owners in Melton
Kirby Bellars Village Hall	Afternoon Tea for the Village
Pickwell and Leesthorpe Village Hall	Village Party
Eaton Community Park Association	World War 2 events and afternoon teas in St Denys Church
Kick up the Arts	Victory in Art – Celebrating VE Day 80 taking place during 40s Weekend in Melton
Harboro Hotel	Singer for the day in the new Garden Lounge during the 40s Weekend
Leicester Musical Memory Box	Commemorative music event/sing along
The Friends of Melton Country Park	Creating a wildflower remembrance space
Melton Space	VE Day 80: Make Do and Mend - Celebrating Heritage Through Sustainable Living
103 The Eye	Sound stage in town on weekend of VE celebration, playing 40s music and broadcasting live
Rainbows Childrens Hospice	40s Window and Shop display
Melton in Bloom	Plaques in various floral locations around the town reminding of events 80 years ago.
Twyford Recreation Ground	Village celebration
Razem dle Polonii - Polish Association	VE Day celebration in conjunction with 40s Weekend specific to Polish community but to bring all cultures together
Scalford Triangle Community Group	Village Party
Sewstern Village Hall	Village celebration
