Alcohol sales Temporary Event Notice

You will need to apply for this notice if you are hosting a one-off event selling alcohol or providing entertainment on a temporary basis. Please read the restrictions and guidance notes (opens in a new tab) before completing the form. When submitting this form, any personal information you give to us is covered by the Licensing Privacy Notice.

How to apply:

Option one - online application 

Please complete the online form and this will automatically send a copy of your form to the Police, Licensing and Environmental Health, and redirect you to our online payment system to pay the fee of £21. You must use a debit card to make payment to successfully submit this form to us.

Please note that if you need to make payment using alternative methods such as cheque or bank transfer, you will need to follow instructions via option two.

Option two - paper application

Complete the Temporary Event Notice and send one copy each to Licensing Department,  Environmental Health, and Leicestershire Police.

Alternatively we can accept hard copies by post (postal addresses below), provided they arrive in time and the fee is paid to the council.

Fee payment for option two

There is a fee of £21 which can be paid using our online payment button below, selecting 'licences' when prompted then 'Alcohol and Entertainment Licence' from the pick list. Please reference your notice when making payment. Please note: your notice is not considered complete until the fee has been paid, so you must allow enough time. If you are not sure whether a payment went through please contact licensing for help.

Restrictions on Temporary Event Notices (TENs)

  • TENs require a notice period of 10 working days. This notice period (and other periods of days which apply to other requirements in relation to TENs) exclude the day the notice is received and the first day of the event.
  • Late TENs (accepted in exceptional circumstances only) require five clear working days notice.
  • A TEN can only be used for up to 499 people. Any more requires a full Premises Licence.
  • Non-Personal Licence holders may only submit five TENs each calendar year (of these, not more than two can be late TENs)
  • Personal Licence holders are limited to 50 TENs per year (of these, not more than 10 can be late TENs)
  • If an associate (for example, spouse or employee) applies these are included in the limits for the applicant also.
  • A TEN can licence activities for up to 168 continuous hours.
  • There must be at least 24 hours between any two TENs.
  • The premises are limited to 15 TENs, over no more than 21 days, per calendar year (also, where an event spans midnight, it will count as covering two days)
  • The Police and Environmental Health can object and require modifications of your notice.
