Pleasure Boat Licence
You’ll need a pleasure boat licence if you’re going to hire boats for personal use or use them to carry up to 12 passengers. A Pleasure Boat Licence applies to specific individual boats including sailboards, rowing boats, canoes, motorboats, pedaloes that are hired out for customers to use, or boats run by you to carry paying passengers. A licence is required for anyone wishing to use a vessel for commercial charter as a pleasure boat that is under 24 metres in length, does not carry any more than 12 passengers and does not undertake voyages which go out to sea.
The person in charge of the pleasure boat will also require a boatperson licence issued from us.
Both licences must be issued by the same council. The council you apply to for a licence will depend on the area of operation of the pleasure boat.
