Our interactive planning pages and Enforcement system will be unavailable from 21 to 28 August 2026 due to a major upgrade. During this time we will be unable to access records, process applications, or respond to many enquiries. Some delays may continue during the week commencing 31 August. Thank you for your patience.
Conservation Areas
We are committed to the concept of sustainable development and the preservation of our historic environment. We have a duty to determine applications for Listed Building and Conservation Area consent.
There are currently 45 conservation areas in the borough. Conservation areas ensure planning permission is needed for changes to buildings which would normally be permitted.
Changes requiring consent include, but not limited to:
- Cladding a building
- Inserting dormer windows
- Putting up a satellite dish visible from the street
- Works to trees
You can search on MyMelton to find the Conservation Area boundaries within the borough.
For further details on when planning permission is required visit the planning portal.
If you are still unsure if you need permission, contact the Planning team.
