We are carrying out essential maintenance work on our planning portal, which mean you will be unable to search for or comment on planning applications from 5pm on Wednesday 11 December. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and thank you for your patience.

Dropped Kerb

A dropped kerb (or vehicle crossover) provides vehicular access to a private driveway from the public road.

You will need the consent of the Leicestershire County Council Highway Authority before you apply for a dropped kerb.

Planning permission will also be required from Melton Borough Council if:

  • the road is classified. (You can find this out on the Find my Street Map below - GeoPlace has published a map of streets that includes road classification information from the National Street Gazetteer (whether a street is an A-Road, B-Road, C-Road or unclassified).
  • the dropped kerb is not being provided in connection with other permitted development, such as a hard standing.

If you have obtained the consent of the Leicestershire County Council Highway Authority and you have established that the road is classified or not being provided in connection with other permitted development you can apply for Planning permission using the button below.
