Bulky item collection

You may be aware that the Environment Agency have issued new guidance which means that from 1 January 2023, waste containing Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs), such as sofas, kitchen and dining room chairs, home office chairs and sofa cushions, will no longer be accepted at landfill and must be destroyed through incineration.

Although there will be changes to how we dispose of the waste, we do not anticipate this will affect our Bulky Waste collection services to you. Please continue to book Bulky Waste collections as normal.

How to dispose of bulky items:

  • Use our bulky item service
  • Donate furniture to the Melton Furniture project
  • Try to recycle it - advertise it on Freecycle
  • Sell the item - try sites like Ebay, Gumtree or the marketplace and groups on Facebook
  • If buying a new item, check if the shop will take away your old items
  • You may be able to dispose of it at your local household recycling centre. Please see the link below.
