Community Co-ordinator
What is the Community Co-ordinator?
Our Community Coordinator engages with community groups, parish councils, and voluntary organisations to organise community activities.
By linking internal and external services and partners, the Coordinator fosters meaningful and positive relationships. This ensures that communities are involved in relevant issues and encourages residents to contribute solutions to identified challenges, promoting a culture of self-sufficiency and independence.
How can the Community Coordinator support our Community Group?
The Community Coordinator can be an invaluable asset for your Community Group in several ways. By actively collaborating with your group, the coordinator can help identify and facilitate opportunities for growth and development. Here are some ways they can support you:
-
Event planning, management and promotion
-
Helping with networking and building partnerships
- Volunteer recruitment
Our Community Co-ordinator would love to hear from your community group, please get in touch by email at empoweringcommunities@melton.gov.uk
Rural Community Connection Consultation
The Rural Community Connection Consultation was carried out at the end of 2024, to find out what communities would like to see in their local areas, what already exists and if it is successful. Services can then be tailored to the needs, rather than offer what is perceived to be required.
Find out what you said, and what we have done as a result, here:

Working with Volunteers
We held a Celebration of Volunteers Event in February 2025 to recognise and express gratitude to the dedicated volunteers who contribute significantly to our community.
During Volunteer week in June we highlighted the good work that local volunteers do and the benefits of being a volunteer. Some of the stories from local volunteers can be found on our webpage dedicated to volunteering.
Working with Parish Councils
The Community Co-ordinator has been strengthening connections between Melton Borough Council and the parish councils. To keep the parishes updated, a newsletter has been created, 'The Parish Connection' which is sent out to all parishes. Rural Area Liaison Forums have been arranged which Parish Clerks and Councillors have attended.
Rural Food Hub Network
The Community Co-ordinator also manages the Rural Food hubs which supports residents living in our rural areas of Melton Mowbray with emergency food and other essential items.
The Community Coordinator has worked with village-based volunteers to be able to run the hubs with their support. The volunteers have created a window of opportunity for additional services to be established, and have given insight into how each unique community thrives.
