Wheelchair accessible taxis

Under the Equality Act 2010, the council must keep an up‑to‑date list of wheelchair‑accessible Hackney Carriage and Private Hire vehicles licensed in the area. To be included on this list, a vehicle must meet the basic requirement of being able to safely transport a wheelchair user while they remain seated in their wheelchair.

Hackney Carriages

Hackney Carriage vehicles will use their meter to determine the fare if the start and finish are within the Melton Borough. They cannot charge more than what is shown on the meter but that can choose to charge less. For journeys outside of Melton Borough, Hackney Carriage can agree a fare with the customer at the time of booking. 

Private Hire

Private Hire Vehicles however must be prebooked and the fare agreed with the customer at time of booking. 

Driver Medical Exemption

Please be aware that a driver may apply for a medical exemption if there is a genuine medical reason that prevents them from assisting wheelchair passengers.
