Make a difference in services that matter

We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic, organised and motivated individual to join Melton Borough Council as a Technical Officer within our Waste, Environment and Cemetery Services team.

The working days for this role will be Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. Due to the operational nature of the position, the role will be primarily based at the Environmental Maintenance Depot at Snow Hill or the Parkside Council Offices. However, there may be occasional opportunities for remote working from home, subject to business needs and operational requirements.

Reporting directly to the Senior Waste, Environment & Cemetery Services Officer, this varied role sits within our dedicated Waste, Environment & Cemetery Services team and plays a key part in supporting the delivery of services that have a direct impact on our communities every day. This key role provides technical, administrative and operational support across waste management, environmental maintenance operations and cemetery services, helping to ensure effective, compliant and customer-focused service delivery.

No two days will be the same. You will be involved in everything from managing cemetery administration and supporting environmental maintenance operations, to monitoring budgets, maintaining asset records, processing financial transactions, supporting projects and responding to customer enquiries. You'll work closely with colleagues, contractors, funeral directors, elected members, residents and other stakeholders to help deliver high-quality services across the borough.

About you

We are looking for someone who is proactive, adaptable and committed to delivering excellent customer service.

You will be a confident team player who is equally comfortable working independently, managing your own workload and meeting deadlines. You will have strong organisational skills, excellent attention to detail and the ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of people.

The successful candidate will:

  • Have experience working in an office or administrative environment.

  • Possess excellent customer service, interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.

  • Have a good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and the wider Microsoft Office suite.

  • Be confident managing data, records and information accurately.

  • Be capable of producing reports, presentations and briefing information.

  • Be able to prioritise competing demands and work effectively under pressure.

  • Demonstrate professionalism, tact and diplomacy when dealing with customers and stakeholders.

  • Have a positive and flexible approach to work and embrace change where required.

  • Ideally have some awareness of local government services, governance processes, budgets or financial monitoring.

  • Hold a full UK driving licence and have access to a vehicle for work-related travel.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to develop a career within local government. Full training and support will be provided, and there will be opportunities to gain valuable experience across a broad range of environmental and community-focused services.
