Freedom of information

The Freedom of Information Act 2000 gives members of the public and any interested bodies the right to request official information held by public bodies, including Melton Borough Council.

We will respond to your request within 20 working days following the date of receipt. If we cannot provide the information within this time, we will explain why. 

You can ask to have any recorded information. This could be in the form of e-mails, notebooks, videos, or tapes.

My request has been declined

We will provide you with the information unless there is a good reason for not doing so.

A good reason may be that your request relates to someone else's personal details.  We will not be able to provide that information to you.

We will tell you why we have declined your request. If you do not agree with the reason we give you, you can ask us to review our decision. If your request is still refused you can ask the Information Commissioner's Office to review that decision.

The Information Commissioner's Office is an independent body that enforces the FOI Act, the Data Protection Act and the Environmental Information Regulations.
