Community invited to learn about Holwell’s green future

In May 2025, exciting new plans were announced for the former Holwell Work’s site, which has been selected for a major investment in low-carbon manufacturing. The new facility, funded by a multi-million–pound investment, will produce low-carbon stone wool insulation essential for the creation of energy efficient buildings. In its first phase, the facility will create 100 high-quality jobs in sustainable construction manufacturing, with the potential to create 250 jobs in total when the facility is at full capacity.
Saint-Gobain, in partnership with Melton Borough Council, is excited to host a public information session at Parkside as part of their public consultation. Detailed plans will be made available for public viewing with professionals from Saint-Gobain being available to answer questions about the development.
The session will be held at Parkside on 22 September 2025 between 10am and 5pm. For those who are unable to attend this session there is an additional evening session which is being held at Asfordby Parish Hall between 5pm and 9pm on 26 September 2025.
Leader of Melton Borough Council, Cllr Pip Allnatt stated that “Securing an investment of this scale here in the Borough of Melton is a good opportunity for residents. It will boost employment, support skills development, and send a clear message that Melton is open for business. This project brings long-term benefits—not just through job creation, but by placing Melton at the heart of sustainable manufacturing in the UK. We’re proud to be working with Saint-Gobain to help deliver a facility that supports our local economy and contributes to national efforts to reduce carbon emissions.”
Cllr Sharon Butcher, who is the Portfolio Holder for Inward Investment, added that “We are delighted that Saint-Gobain is pressing ahead and opening up new opportunities for skilled employment and diversification. I am hopeful that this endeavour will create meaningful career pathways for our local young people, enabling them to build successful futures and thrive within our borough.”
Dean O’Sullivan, Managing Director of Saint-Gobain UK’s Interior Solutions businesses, said:
“We’re really pleased to be bringing forward detailed plans for this major investment in new low-carbon stone wool insulation in Melton. When the facility is at full capacity we will employ up to 250 local people in a wide range of disciplines and levels. The consultation provides a chance for local people to find out more details about the plans and are open to anyone to come along and discuss them with our team. Saint-Gobain have a long and proud history in Melton and I really hope this new facility will continue this heritage for many decades to come, manufacturing essential construction materials in a more sustainable way.”
In addition to the information sessions, plans will be made available online at www.saint-gobain.co.uk/stonewool from the 22 September 2025.
