Cllr Ronan Browne elected as new Leader of the Council
At an Extraordinary Meeting of Council held on 21 April 2026, Councillors formally appointed Councillor Ronan Browne as Leader of Melton Borough Council, in line with the Council’s constitutional arrangements.
The appointment follows the resignation of Councillor Pip Allnatt earlier this month. Councillor Browne, who is leader of the Conservative Group, was nominated and elected by Council.
Upon being appointed Cllr Ronan Browne, said, "It’s a great honour to be elected as leader of Melton Borough Council. As I stated in my speech at Full Council, I will be endeavouring to work with all politicians and the local community, as collaboratively as possible, to ensure the residents of Melton Mowbray and the wider villages are represented.”
Councillor Browne will now take on responsibility for providing political leadership to the authority, working with Councillors, officers, and partners to deliver the Council’s priorities for residents.
The change in leadership does not affect the day-to-day delivery of council services.
Further details of the meeting and decisions made are available on the Council’s website.
Minutes of the meeting will be published before the Annual General Meeting on 21 May: https://democracy.melton.gov.uk/ieListDocuments.aspx?CId=133&MId=2764
