Delivering on our commitments for Melton's allotments and green spaces 

The current warm weather means our grass cutting works are reduced, but the work doesn't stop for our Environmental Maintenance Operatives.

Alongside our town centre improvements, looking after our churchyards and open spaces, and keeping our summer planting fresh and vibrant in the heat, they are working alongside our community and property team colleagues to tackle overgrown and unused allotment plots - creating new growing opportunities for residents on the waiting list. So far, four plots have been returned to use.  

This is part of a wider programme of improvements taking place across our allotment sites and reflects the commitment we made to improve communication, site management and the overall experience of allotment holders. Recent work has also included site inspections, engagement with plot holders, and finalising orders for improved fencing at our allotment sites. 

This work also supports our wider Cleaner, Greener Melton ambitions by making better use of our green assets, improving environmental quality and ensuring that valued community spaces are maintained and enhanced for residents. The Council has been clear that allotments are a priority, and recent actions demonstrate that we are delivering against those commitments. 

Importantly, this is not the end of the story. Further allotment improvements are already planned, including additional plot clearances, preparatory work and repairs to gates and fencing at Redwood Avenue and Doctors Lane, continued engagement and improved communication with allotment holders, reduced waiting list times, and coordination of ongoing work to improve the long-term management of sites across the borough.
