Flag to be raised to honour Armed Forces Day
Melton Borough Council will once again be hosting a flag flying ceremony in support of Britain’s National Armed Forces Day.
The annual event will take place outside the Council Offices, Parkside on Burton Street on Monday 22 June 2026. Proceedings will start at 10:50am and members of the public are warmly invited to attend and show their support for the men and women who make up the Armed Forces community from currently serving troops to service families, veterans and cadets.
Military organisations including the Royal British Legion, local branches of the Armed Forces and the Defence Animal Training Regiment will be represented on the day with WO1 RSM Tanya Davis taking the lead in the parade.
Guests will be formally welcomed by The Mayor, Councillor Jim Adcock, followed by a short service and blessing of the flag by The Reverend Father John St John. The flag will be raised at 11am by Sgt Whyte MBE to honour the British Armed Forces, past, present and future.
The Mayor, Councillor Jim Adcock said: "This occasion gives us an important opportunity to reflect on the courage, dedication, and sacrifice of the men and women who serve, and have served, in the Armed Forces. Their commitment to protecting our freedoms and upholding our values deserves our deepest respect and gratitude.
"Armed Forces Day is not only a time to remember, but to celebrate those who serve now and reaffirm our commitment to stand alongside them. Together, we honour their service and the values they protect."
Once raised, the flag will be flown throughout the week to show support for Armed Forces Day that falls on 27 June 2026.
