A new Mayor for the borough has been elected following the annual meeting of the Council, held on Thursday 21 May 2026.

The Council elected Councillor Jim Adcock as the Mayor for the coming year, who announced that the Mayor’s chosen charity will be The Air Ambulance Service. He will be supported in his role by his wife Mrs Kate Adcock.

Councillor Helen Cliff was appointed as Deputy Mayor, and she will be supported by her husband Mr Steven Cliff.

Outgoing Mayor, Councillor Siggy Atherton, reflected on her term of office, stating that: “My year as Mayor has been a truly rewarding experience, giving me the opportunity to represent Melton Borough and promote the many positive activities within our community. It has also been humbling to meet so many dedicated volunteers who give their time to support and enhance our borough.

“I am very grateful for the support of my Deputy, Councillor Jim Adcock and his wife Kate, as well as my Consort, Ian Atherton, and Deputy Consort, Liza Hicks.

“I know that Cllr Jim Adcock and his wife Kate will make a fantastic Mayor and Mayoress, and I hope they enjoy it as much as I have.”

The newly elected Mayor of Melton, Cllr Jim Adcock, added “I am deeply honoured to serve as Mayor of Melton and proud to represent our borough. Melton is a place I care deeply about, and I look forward to supporting our communities and celebrating what makes them special. I will carry out this role with respect, integrity and dedication, and do my very best for the people of Melton throughout my year in office.”
