Leader reacts to announcement of a major investment in Melton

Leader of Melton Borough Council, Cllr Pip Allnatt, reacts to Saint-Gobain's announcement of major new investment into a low carbon manufacturing factory in Melton Mowbray.
A delighted Cllr Allnatt, welcomed the announcement which has the potential to create additional jobs in the local area, giving local people the opportunity to develop their skills and careers with this long-established company, stating:
“Right now, the construction industry plays a vital role in driving economic growth, and ensuring high quality building materials is essential in achieving this. This investment is outstanding news, and represents a terrific vote of confidence in Melton and our region. This new factory will bring with it cutting-edge technology, powered by renewable electricity further strengthening our aspirations to grow the local green economy.
“It’s been a great pleasure working with Saint-Gobain over recent months, and for the council to have been able to assist them in their decision to bring this major investment into Holwell. We look forward to continuing this positive relationship and working together in the future and want to get the message out to other investors that we are open for business.”
Howell Works is situated in Asfordby Ward of Melton Borough, Ward Councillor Cllr Margaret Clay added: “I am delighted that Saint Gobain have chosen to base their new operation at the Holwell site on Asfordby Hill. Our Borough, and Asfordby Ward, will benefit enormously from a prestigious global company’s investment, particularly regarding the potential of good quality employment opportunities and availability of training for young people.
“I am grateful to the Council leaders and officers who have been working so hard to secure this deal.”
Cllr Steve Carter, Asfordby Ward Councillor, followed the sentiment, saying that: “This is great news especially as it offers opportunities for skilled and semi-skilled work with good prospects. Good jobs mean good wages and that is good for local shops and the economy.”
