The Ballot for the Renewal of the Melton Business Improvement District (BID) took place on 28 October 2021.

The council have supported the BID with the democratic process of the ballot, which took place over a 4 week period. Local businesses that were entitled to vote could select 'yes' or 'no' to the BID’s proposed plans via a postal vote.

The outcome saw a majority of businesses voting for the BID proposal.  The total number of votes cast was 143 out of the 484 businesses eligible to vote, representing a turnout of 29 per cent.  In total, 129 voted in favour, representing 90 per cent of the rateable value of votes cast.

This outcome means that, providing the Ballot is not challenged, the Melton Mowbray BID will renew for a further 5 years. Following this result the council will collect the levy on behalf of the BID.

The Melton Mowbray BID gives local businesses the opportunity to be involved in shaping the future of the town centre in addition to providing further investment into the town and organising projects, events and promotions for the town and business who are part of the BID.

As part of their proposal and business plan for the next five years the BID aims to enhance the vitality, prosperity and vibrancy of the Melton Mowbray town centre, by marketing, promoting and improving the town’s trading environment to make it a vibrant and prosperous place to live, work, and visit.
