Planning service update – improving how we work

Melton Borough Council is changing the way our Development Management service works to provide a better, faster, and more consistent planning service.

We know some customers have experienced delays in getting decisions or updates, and we’re sorry for the frustration this has caused.  We are taking action to fix this.

What we’re doing:

  • We’ve recruited extra staff and launched an improvement programme called the Planning Productivity Plan.
  • From December 2025 to March 2026, we’ll use a new approach called Short Interval Management (SIM) to clear the backlog and improve processes.
  • Our shared goal: By August 2026, Melton Borough Council’s Development Management service will be trusted, efficient, and easy to work with.
