We are currently unable to accept any bulky waste collection bookings for fridges or freezers. This is because the disposal facility used by Leicestershire County Council has temporarily reached full capacity. All other bulky items remain unaffected and can continue to be booked using the online form.

Electricals, batteries and vapes

It's import to dispose of your electrical items safely, they contain toxic materials that can cause fires or harm the environment or local wildlife.

We can collected some electrical items and batteries as part of our waste and recycling kerbside collections.

These are placed in a small separate compartment in our bin lorries.

Due to limited capacity in the lorries, your items may not be collected the first time you place them out.

If your items aren't collected, please put them out again the following week, alongside either your black or brown wheeled bins.

Batteries

You should not put batteries in your general waste or recycling bins. They contain toxic materials that can cause fires. Batteries must be placed in a designated battery container (or battery drop off point).

You can find these in many local supermarkets, shops and in our council offices

Batteries can be recycled alongside your refuse and recycling collections, they must be placed in a small carrier bag at the side of your bin, not in it, on the day of your collection. Do not mix with electrical items and textiles, please place them in separate bags.

Please note that collection is limited to 1 small carrier bags at any one time.

Many electrical devices, especially rechargeable devices like phones, vapes and laptops also contain hidden batteries in them. Where possible, you should remove these batteries and dispose of them in a battery drop off point. If the batteries are too large or you cannot remove them from the item, you should recycle the whole item – see small electrical items below.

Alternatively, you can try to reduce what you use by using re-chargeable batteries to reduce waste and save money in the long term.

Small electrical items

There are multiple ways you can dispose of your small electrical items safely.

Kerbside collections for electrical items

You can now place small electrical items with your waste and recycle collection, so they can be recycled.

Place items in a standard size carrier bag. Do not mix electrical items, textiles and batteries, please place them in separate bags. Place the bags at the side of your bin, not in it, on the day of your collection.

Due to limited capacity, your items may not be collected. If your items aren't collected, please put them out again the following week, and we’ll do our best to collect them.
