Melton Mowbray BID is renewed
The Ballot for the Renewal of the Melton Business Improvement District (BID) concluded on Thursday 29 October 2026.
The majority of businesses voted in favour of the BID proposal.
As part of its statutory responsibilities, the council oversaw the democratic process of the ballot, which took place over a 4 week period. Eligible town centre businesses were able to review the BID's proposed plans for another 5 year term and vote 'yes' or 'no' on whether to renew the Business Improvement District (BID) until 2031.
A total of 164 votes were cast (with an aggregate property rateable value of £2.7million), with 152 voting in favour of Melton BID (with an aggregate property rateable value of £2.1million). Under BID regulations, the ballot must be supported by both a majority of businesses voting, and the aggregate rateable value of their eligible properties. The Melton BID renewal ballot met both requirements.
This outcome means that the Melton BID will renew for a further 5 years (until 2031). Following this result the council will continue to collect the levy on behalf of Melton BID.
The Melton BID gives local businesses the opportunity to be involved in shaping the future of the town centre in addition to providing further investment into the town and organising projects, events and promotions for the town and business who are part of the BID.
As part of its business plan for the next five years, Melton BID will continue to support businesses by enhancing marketing and promotional activity, expanding funding opportunities, introducing further cost-saving initiatives and investing in town centre improvements. Together, these initiatives will help increase footfall across the town centre, attract more visitors to Melton Mowbray and encourage residents to shop locally.
